| Organized by Ernesto Galli della Loggia With Eleonora d´Urso and Nicola Nicchi Gutar Maria Pierantoni Giua Mise en espace Eleonora d´Urso Once again this year “Spoleto Idee” (Spoleto Ideas) wishes to represent, besides the artistic events of the Festival, a small space of reflection, practically a metaphoric, silent counterpoint, aiming at confirming the substantial unity of every aspect of this elusive thing we call culture. Between an opera and a poem, a theater play and a page of philosophy, the expressive forms change but the tension of thoughts, feelings, images, and passions that they imply and arouse are identical. And identical is our desire to go beyond immediacy, and give voice to an-other aspect of humanity. Poetry and a reflection on this most urgent and contemporary issue are at the center of this year’s program of “Spoleto Idee”. | June 27/28 RISORGIMENTO A petit homage to the Unity of Italy that is about to celebrate its 150th anniversary. A collection of poetry with a single theme: our Risorgimento. A chance to listen to the echo of ancient verses almost always listened to for the first time in faraway classrooms but also an occasion to seize – as we perhaps didn’t back then – the authentic patriotic drive and high civic dignity, and perhaps even ingenuity, of more and less famous poets that got themselves involved in the battle of Italians for the freedom and independence of their country. July 10/11 NOVECENTO A selection of poetry on civic and political issues from 1900 Italian verses. From Pascoli to Ungaretti, from Montale to Pasolini, the solid vocation of Italian intellectuals for politics is proven by their poetical works, offering more than once a hint for unexpected discoveries.
