What’s the Festival of Spoleto spectator like? What does he watch and how does he watch? Which poetics of vision and participation does he set himself in this historic international event? Through a composite - photo, video, theater - and in progress portrait of the viewer of this 2010 Festival of Spoleto, we will try to trace the aspects of how the audience - and the world - has changed and how it is changing in this dizzy century.
The documentation - photos and video - will accompany, like telling a story, all of the current edition of the Festival, and is carried out in progress with a digital system that collects and shows day by day, on several monitors arranged in the ancient Palazzo Comunale (Town hall), the images of spectators attending the event, according to an idea of installation completely dedicated to the Spoleto 2010 audience.
There is also a drama workshop for spectators thought of as a vision exercise.
From classical theater to the masters of the twentieth century, it shows how the relationship actor / spectator has changed in time through four indicative situations (Greek, Elizabethan, Italian, ´900 theater) with a final performance demonstration, this too changed every day and shown in the mirror of Velázquez´s masterpiece on second glance, LAS MENINAS.
Finally, the site chosen for the project, the beautiful Town Hall of Spoleto, is not at random: a place of public power, in this case showing the private citizen, in a play of back and forth between public and private which is the mirror of the circular relationship between actor and spectator. . | PROGRAM from Saturday June 19th to Sunday July 4th at 11:00 / 18:00
