Program 1500s villanelle, instrumental pieces related to the tradition of the healing taranta (tarantella) and compositions by Eugenio Bennato from the Brigante se more, to the latest Taranta Power, Che il Mediterraneo sia…, Grande Sud, and the last ballad dedicated to the two historical figures of the banditry epic: Ninco Nanco and Michelina De Cesare (La ballata di Michela).
| Naples is the beginning of the path that lead me to discover the folkloristic and ancient artistic expressions of Southern Italy regions, then those of Mediterranean Sea to finally encompass the culture and music of the whole South of the world.
Naples is one of most vital and ancient cultural centre in the history of the Old Continent because of this city’s five conservatories, arts academy and theatres and thanks to master composers and playwriters such as Roberto De Simone, Eduardo De Filippo, Roberto Murolo and Edoardo Caliendo, who were also my masters of life and art, at the time I got along with them.
At the very beginning of my artistic career I met Nunzio Areni, whom I started the endeavour of the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare with. Recently my artistic path lead me to meet again Nunzio and following his suggestions I also discovered the huge ensemble of singers and musicians called Orchestra Popolare del Sud.
Despite of the different age, places, experiences of our artistic course, the peculiar artistic expression I reached today contains all the images and sounds of this orchestra so new and, at the same time, so ancient: here is the genesis of “Brigante se More” project.
This new show with Orchestra Popolare del Sud is a synthesis of the path of us all, a course made of streets and sounds first separated and then again merging in one; in which the Orchestra is the musical warp of the stories I tell with voice and guitar.
The musicians appear sometime on the background as a musical tableau vivent, sometimes break off at the front stage, using voices and gestures in order to express the existence of a territory of ambitious dreams and deeply rooted trees.
