| The Festival dei 2Mondi of Spoleto presents a special section on “Cinema and Psychoanalysis” under the auspices of the Società Italiana di Psicoanalisi and in collaboration with Centro Psicoanalitico of Rome and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. It will focus on the analyst-patient relationship and how it is represented on the screen: with ambiguity, sometimes with ironic and caricatural undertones, always with the aim to conduct an impossible search for the many emotional issues at stake. In addition to extremely successful films in terms of box office and reviews by foreign directors such as Woody Allen and Patrice Leconte, from The Sixth Sense to Will Hunting, the event will also feature Italian films such as: Le mani forti by Franco Bernini, Jurij by Stefano Gabrini and La stanza del figlio by Nanni Moretti. Moreover, it will present the national premiere of a short movie Lo schermo opaco, by Paolo Boccara and Giuseppe Riefolo, an unpublished and passionate exploration of the close relationship between movies and the unconscious, as shown by footage of films by different authors edited with interviews to renowned Italian psychoanalysts. (Stefano Bolognini, Anna Ferruta, Nino Ferro, Franco Borgogno). Finally it will screen the feature film The Pervert’s Guide to the Cinema by Slavoj Zizek: a fundamental film for movie fans but also for anyone who is interested in the never-ending ability of movies to give shape to desires and to turn on dreams. | The three days will start at 3.30 p.m. and will feature movie projections, meetings with authors and performers and an open discussion between the audience and the psychoanalysts. The panel discussion will be conducted by the directors Franco Bernini and Stefano Gabrini and the psychoanalysts Fabio Castriota, Alberto Angelini, Paolo Boccara, Giuseppe Riefolo. Organizers of the section : Fabio Castriota and Claudia Spadazzi.
