Tradition and Modernity

The concerts of the State Police Musical Band summarize various experiences that illustrate the path of wind music across the history of music and costume.
The Musical Band has always provided significant signs of modernity in time, with a choice of  constantly updated songs.
The vast repertoire, among the most comprehensive and representative, includes pages of classical authors (Beethoven, Wagner, Rossini, Verdi, Moussorgski, Ravel and others) alongside original compositions for  Wind Orchestra of modern and contemporary authors such as Hindemith, Schoenberg, Holst, Barnes, Reed, Sparke, and keen sensitivity for the masterpieces of symphonic-choral literature (Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Orff).
Established in 1928 under the guidance of Maestro Giulio Andrea Marchesini, the State Police Musical Band boasts a staff of 103 elements, in addition to winds and percussion, piano and guitar.
The high artistic quality of its interpretations and the quality of the programs proposed, qualify it as one of the best international Wind orchestras.
This is eloquently testified by its collaboration with prestigious musical institutions such as the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Comunale of Florence and excellent world-renowned artists such as Mariella Devia, Leon Bates, Vincenzo La Scola, Fiorenza Cedolins, Cheryl Porter, Steven Mead, Stefano Bollani.
Great interest and considerable prestige have arisen from the international exhibitions in Jerusalem, New York, Essen, Mexico, Malta and Oslo where the band held Italy in a prominent position. Recently it  participated in the Columbus Day 2008 celebrations  in New York, holding a concert at the Hammerstein
Ballroom in Manhattan and at the Italian Embassy in Washington.
Under the guidance of Maestro Maurizio Billi, the Band  has reached a level of unquestioned excellence evidenced by recordings that have received unanimous approval.
