The Riding Wife

The sweet and darling  Romana waking up after her wedding night, has a little freak she wants to satisfy immediately. To have tantrums is a part of love and her loving husband Glauco is ready to satisfy any of  Romana´s desires. She wants to be hold in his arms, carried and never left. He lovingly does everything she asks, but after some time he lovingly wants to put her down. As lightning and thunder in the blue sky Romana´s screaming destroys the naive and in abeyance setting of their love. She wants the right to be on her husband´s arms, back and shoulders as she pleases. She wants to ride Glauco, and she wants to ride him always and forever. Saddle, stirrups and riding crop: the man is tamed. This is what wedding is: obligatory love. The Riding Wife is a bitter parable of wedding life, a parable that warns us of the difficulty in every relationship. The play takes place in Italy after the Second World War. The prissiness of a changing Italy that emphasizes family and well being but also wants to have friends in high society and vain good manners. The inexperienced Glauco will have to cope with all these changes striving to find his way, meanwhile the very vital Romana will easily find the right solutions to every problem: wedding is a good deal if you know how to make the most of it. Socially and economically.
