The President and Artistic Director Giorgio Ferrara presents the program for the next edition of the Festival dei Due Mondi (June 24-July 10, 2011)
This year the Festival will be dedicated to Gian Carlo Menotti for the centennial of his birth. The first work he composed in 1936 will inaugurate the 54th edition of the Festival: "Amelia Goes to the Ball", conducted by Johannes Debus, sets by Gianni Quaranta, costumes by Maurizio Galante, directed by Giorgio Ferrara (24/26 June - 1/2 July).
A great Italian director returns to the Festival dei Due Mondi: Luca Ronconi will present the world première of "Modesty" by Rafael Spregelburd, one of the most prominent and influential figures of the contemporary Argentine scene (24/26 June).
For the first time in Italy there will be a young classical ballet company that is emerging on the international scene as one of the most exciting: the Corella Ballet with its founder and artistic director, the Spanish star Angel Corella. At the Teatro Romano they will present the Italian Première of four pieces from their varied repertoire (8/9 July).
For the music, the traditional Final Concert in Piazza Duomo, entitled "Long Live Italy" will be directed by James Conlon and dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy with a repertoire ranging from Verdi to Rossini, and playing some of the most famous Italian folk songs dedicated to the Risorgimento (10 July).
The Festival, with the patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, avails of the substantial support of the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities and is promoted by the Region of Umbria , the Province of Perugia and the Townhall of Spoleto.
